To Grandma’s House

  • Ready to hang

Whether grandma lives in the city or country, this winter wall hanging gets one in the mood for a wonderful winter weekend away. It’s time to go skating on the pond, throw snowballs from behind the trees, and traipse back and forth to the mailbox through the drifting snow. Decked out with holiday wreaths, the warm lights in the house windows call you inside for hot cocoa, coffee, or tea.

While this would make a wonderful addition to your Christmas or holiday décor, it also can remain in your living room throughout the winter.

To Grandma’s House incorporated all the elements of my children’s trips to their Maine grandparents (the farmhouse, the pond, the horse and evergreen trees), while the house and trees were modeled from photos of a house down the road from where they grew up. I can create a similar wall hanging or canvas mounted piece from your photo and special memories.

The piece is created from cotton and batik fabrics with organza added for highlights. The snow is pieced, thread painting is used for details and landscape and house are attached using raw-edge applique technique. The whole piece has been quilted using free-motion quilting. There is a hanging sleeve in the back with a flat wooden shim and attached wire for hanging. You can also remove that and add your own dowel.
